Wes Blazer, Owner, has been designing, building and racing boats since his youth. As a boy, he helped his grandfather paint his boat (a 1957 27-ft. Owens Cabin Cruiser) and sketched hundreds of “perfect boat” designs. Later, when sailing on Sandusky Bay with his cousin, the sails filled—and Wes knew he would do this for the rest of his life.
As a teen, Wes worked at a local shop and learned boatbuilding from men who had worked at Lyman Boat Works and Matthews Yachts. Wes says Lyman boats “are some of the best-riding boats ever made—and that I, too, create great-riding boats.” Wes then learned sailmaking at Doyle Sails, Ullman Sails, and North Sails, which was followed by composite boatbuilding and boat design at a large boat builder in Florida.
Wes started racing with the Sandusky Sailing Club’s Junior Race Team and by the end of high school owned a Thistle and a Jet 14. Later racing classes included Farr40, Mumm 30, J/22, J/24, Melges 24, Thistle, Tartan Ten, and winning the 2015 Interlake National Championships after rebuilding a found-in-the-weeds free boat.
